You don’t. Cats for some reason will eat real plants and unfortunately artificial ones. I have silk flowers throughout my house, and still have to watch my two cats (no matter how high I put the silk flowers up on furniture, especially when I’m leaving the house) they manage to get to the silk flowers. So I’m selective where I put the silk flowers and usually behind closed doors…just use ornaments for decoration. You might have a chance of hanging plants in the middle of the room, that way they really can’t reach it, but it you hang plants by the window, trust me they will reach those plants, they’ll tear your curtains down etc. I do have a few artificial plants by my windows in the living room, let them smell it, and they don’t bother with it.
I was told by one of my friends that canine pepper usually works, but, then I worry about the plants. Sorry, that’s the best answer (s) I can give you. Good luck
Also as a trainer for animals, I have learned that if you put parmesan cheese in their food (not much, just sprinkle it over their moist cat food), it actually stops the hairballs…well it did for the cats that I trained, and they loved it. You might wish to try that.
Raymond, For hairballs use vaseline. Put a little on their nose. Or you can buy stuff that is made for hairballs but it is basicly the same as vaseline only flavored. But my cats never liked the taste. Vaseline was a lot earier to give them. Of cousre those hairballs will come up without giving them any thing. Bushing their fur everyday will help them not have hairballs in the first place. Really all catnip does for them is make them act crazy.

When I have a difficult time sleeping at night, I mix camomille and mint tea together and I go out like a light. Very soothing and comforting. But to think it may be marijuana, geez, I wonder what I do in my sleep. I’ve been known to sleep walk, and drive in my sleep, that may be the reason why. Since it was discovered that I do this, my son hides the keys on me before I go to bed at night. Didn’t know it had anything to do with me drinking innocent tea. But I really appreciate everyone for your information. I love learning something new everyday. Boy this was a first!!!
Yes, Lola, there is such a thing as catnip tea. It is in the mint family and is a natural sedative and digestive aid. Think I remember reading it is also in the same family as marijuana.
This is just so funny. This cat was really on a “high”. I wonder what really is in catnip that sets cats off. I’m certain it’s nothing harmful, just makes them happier than usual. Maybe I should try some….ummmmm interesting concept.

People use to give catnip to babies when they had colic. It would make their little tummies feel better and they would be able to sleep.
This is the same sound my cat makes just before she throws up hairball.
