This paints a very nostalgic view of American life, mostly middle- classed white experiences. As memory holds fast to the things that were wonderful, we tend to forget about the days and times that were filled with less than pleasant recollections. Yes, customer services is not what it used to be, and establishments such as the local drug and shoe stores that marked every town were part of what was then an evolving commercial shopping venue. With the passage of time comes improvements and different conveniences that represent progress, growth and better access for all.
It is always fun to reminisce about the past, but more important to engage in the present for a better future.

I miss those days with one exception. I do not miss wearing the coat and tie!
