Hillbillies Ice Hole – A Bar on Top of a Frozen Lake
There are all sorts of lakeside bars and hotspots, but how about a bar that’s quite literally on a lake? Welcome to Hillbillies Ice Hole, a cozy bar located atop Minnesota’s frozen Lake Lida. At Hillbillies, ice fishing is a part of the package experience, with ice holes located throughout the bar. Minnesota winters might be long and rough, but there’s no better place to kick back than this one of a kind tavern. But, you’ve got to act quick—Hillbillies Ice Hole is a rare delight, open a mere 20 days out of the year. What did you think? You should have a derby for big fish, not that you need more publicity. I’ll get a pass and come for cold margarita. Ole’!

Sounds like a lot of fun and fellowship. How would someone from Florida like me find such a place to visit for a FEW hours (since I’m 81 years old! )

I’m from Devils Lake ND and ice fished for 50 years. There is nothing more fun. Live in Arkansas now and really miss my ice fishing. Never seen a bar set up on our lake however. I am familiar with Lake Lida as we spent a few weeks on Blanche Lake in the summer.
We didn’t have an ice house but would set up a table and picnic while we were fishing. Once had a Northern so large it wouldn’t fit through the 8 inch hole so had to go to town and buy a 10 inch auger.
If you haven’t ice fished you don’t know what fun you have missed.

This is really cool. I’m from Devils Lake ND and ice fished 50 years. There’s nothing more fun. Have never seen a bar set up on our Lake though. I live in Arkansas now, and really miss my ice fishing.

What about power? Does the bar have a generator?

Yup, that’s what it’s like in Northern Minnesota-lots of ice fishing. Nothing better than walleye being caught from under the ice.
