Actually it’s just a part of training. I have two lab/chow/miniature collies, and I can hold a treat right up to their noses and say quietly, “leave it.” In order not to be tempted they turn their heads away…this can go on for five or more minutes, until I say okay. They know they’ll get their treat (s). The reason why I trained them this way, if there is a small animal outside e.g., chipmunk, rabbit, kitten, etc., they are trained not to attack or go after that particular animal, just by saying “leave it.” Especially helpful if there are skunks around. lol
