93-KHJ – Robert W. Morgan – I remember THAT! But what is really striking about your video is the CARS! Oh, those cars! There were several I wish I had!
And SO little traffic – was it really that civilized back then? And NO tents and garbage on the sidewalks? I grew up there (in the Valley) but I’m SO SO So glad I escaped, in 1981. It’s no longer part of the civilized world, unfortunately…

Born and raised in Downey in 50s and early 60s, great memories things were so much better back then. Had to move out of So Cal 20 years ago, gone to hell. Been back twice in that time, could not pay me enough $$$ to move back there. Really to bad.

I came to Los Angeles and environs way back in 1930 and remember the subject matter in the above video very well. Ah yes, hardly any people here then. in fact, I remember when the once great state of California had only 7 million people, about 1 million or so of them in Los Angeles county. Looking at the beautiful old autos in the video reminds me that there were plenty of mechanics who knew how to adjust and/or work on a carburetor back then. Now they – both the mechanics and carburetors – are as rare as hen’s teeth. It’s a crying shame having seen California plunge from a wonderful Eden in the mid 20 century down to an overcrowded overtaxed disaster of a toilet.

I first visited from the UK in 1978 when California was the land of opportunity . Now its approaching the state of Redruth in Cornwall uk that had been the centre of the universe 200 years ago. I now find it rather sad, but predictable as Liberals or democrats seem to be the seeds of inbuilt destruction of the human race.

Yes! liberals/democrats ARE the destruction of all that is good. CA is an unfortunate example.

thank you for this video. A little before my time, but I was born and raised in LA so I called out many of the landmarks that I recognized, living around or under them for most my previous life, places my mom & dad might take me… Some are still there, some are laughably unrecognizable nowdays. Pretty sure the scene of woman standing next to the parking meters overlooking the beach is Redondo Beach, right about Avenue I.
I also liked the song, sounds like something Jimmy Buffet could cover with a convincing twang.
