The Adventure of Peep, the Baby Hummingbird
I came across this little guy peeping away on my lunch break. Long story short, we became friends over sugar water. He grew to love sitting on my hand, and cozied up in my palm a lot. I left him at the park, but this is a Silicon Beach bird, so he belongs in the nicest of places. He wouldn’t let me walk away once, and landed on my shoe. I convinced him to stay. It’s nice in the park. 🙂 It did break my heart that he didn’t want me to leave. I didn’t want to, either.
It was a safe park with minimal foot traffic, and I’d left him in the same are I’d found him. Before I left, I saw him fly up to a low tree branch, so I knew if any danger came around, he’d be able to flutter off.
The vet gave me some good advice to take care of Peep. At his age, he was in the later stages of learning how to fly, and his parents should have been close by. She advised that I take him back, wait a couple of hours, then return, and if he was still there, then I could take him to a local wildlife sanctuary. She gave the name and contact number just in case. In those 2 hours, I’d looked up how to take care of a hummingbird in case I needed to keep him over night in my home before driving him up to the sanctuary.
We’ll be keeping our eyes out for this little cutie pie. 🙂
Peep got into my heart so fast. 🙂 I miss Peep, but I know he’ll be just fine. He is a tiny, but strong little birb.
*updated 1 year later* Every time I’m feeling like life is too much, I think about Peep and smile. If he can be so small and survive, so can I.
