From the movie: ROCK AROUND THE CLOCK 1956. Here we have one of the best Rock & Roll dance couples of the 1950’s Earl Barton and Lisa Gaye, who was Debra Padget”s sister. Earl Barton was also the choreographer for this movie. The band is course Bill Haley and the Comets. What did you think? Was lucky enough to meet Bill Haley and the Comets at a concert in St. Louis. In 1956, if you did know EVERY word to every song of theirs, you were not a Bill Haley fan. My favorite was Rudy (Rudy’s Rock). Especially since I played Tenor and Alto in our own little 4-5 piece combo, ( The Caravans- our name and Themesong) Was able to get a signed copy of the Rock Around the Clock album. Our piano virtuous was John Paul (Liberace) Jones. Not sure it is the same one or not. Lost track after graduation in ’56.

Those were two of the best dancers in this world: the gorgeous Lisa Gaye and Earl Barton. If Bill Haley’s music was 50 % responsible for the world-wide success of this film, Lisa Gaye was responsible for the other 50 percent. It wasn’t just her dancing, but she looked gorgeous from head to toe. She literally sparkled which was why she was called America’s Rock ‘N Roll Queen. There will never be another Lisa Gaye. She was a ballerina in real life.

You could understand the words an the music did not brake your ear drums. Bill Haley had a great group an Rock Around The Clock was the National Anthem of Rock An Roll.

This is fantastic, those were the days. I actually met the Comets (at Lakewood Park) and discussed having them at our high school prom. They were going to be in Germany but he did say he would love to do a prom, that was how they got started. I met several of the band members later in their lifes when they were out of the business. Always friendly and took the time to talk to you. Great memories from these days.
