I was once at a fishing pier in Florida where a lot of pelicans hung out. When a boat came in there was a guy at a table who would gut the fish. The pelicans actually formed a line and he would throw the scraps on the deck. A pelican would grab this and then go to the back of the line and they would all move up in orderly fashion and each would get a part of the catch. It was amazing to watch.

ISN’T HE A CLEVER LITTLE RASCAL!? IT IS AMAZING WHAT ANIMALS WILL DO WHEN THEY ARE HUNGRY! I HAVE ONE IN MY BACKYARD WHO COMES TO EAT MY OUTDOOR/INDOOR KITTY’S FOOD EVERY DAY WHEN NO ONE IS AROUND AND STOPS AND LOOKS AT ME WHEN I TALK TO HIM FROM THE BREEZEWAY!

A few years back we had several doing that, now it’s only the occasional one. One old girl, I’d sit on the deck & talk quietly to her, she stayed a ‘regular’ for quite a while. We always put food dishes out for the ferals/strays that lived up around the woods & our shed.

        Hi Wanda,
I was so happy to see and read your response to my comment! I am so glad there are other animal lovers in the world like me! I forgot to mention the odd fact that a flock of starlings wait in my trees each morning too, for me to put out a bowl of dry kitty nuggets, and make so much noise until I go out to put food and water out there. Then they all fly down together and unbelievably wait in line and each takes a couple of bites and flies off to wait for the others. I do this both in my back yard and my front yard. Even a red breasted robin come and sniffed and bit a piece, but I do not think he are it, since they are known to eat worms! Of course the outdoor kitties come to my door to remind me to put out their breakfast and dinner too! I know because my two indoor cats run up to the window platforms, whenever there are other animals out there and meow at them! I am a retired senior- former teacher in Long Island! Love-Ramona

Ramona, you sound like me. I’m in an apt, but leave seeds out everyday for the birds/ squirrels, & cat food for the strays. On the fence & the garden next to the apt, the birds & squirrels patiently wait. They fly to tree when see me coming home, chirping their ‘maid home’ to each other. Luv it! The cats patiently sit & wait, with that ‘hurry up’ look. Adorable. Certain breeds come in each spring, stay summer, leave in fall.
