The Original Hot Rod Lincoln
The original Hot Rod Lincoln was built by Country Western singer/songwriter Charlie Ryan in the 1950s, and inspired his song of the same name. Now, owner Dave Demangone takes the popular car to various car shows and charity functions.

Had a high school friend that had a 49 Lincoln, 3 speed and it was a dragster. It would take a ford or chevy, but that 88 olds blew it away.

When I was 19 I bought a heavily modified ’55 Buick Century Riviera Coupe from a member of the family. He had actually had the car’s engine built by a Bay Area speed shop for the purpose of drag racing. Why a Buick? Because the 322 ci (352 ci when the speed shop got through boring and stroking it) “Nail Head” had stump pulling torque coming out of the hole. The car was successfully campaigned around the Bay, winning a wall full of trophies, and then fell into my hands. BTW, it was a 3 speed stick with a 4:45 rear gear ratio. Anyway, I blew transmissions, clutches, rear ends and axles on a regular basis and my dad, who had encouraged me to buy “Cousin Buddy’s car”, came to hate the thing. My cruising buddies stole the lyric from the Hot Rod Lincoln song and used to croon “Son you gonna drive to puke if you don’t stop drivin that hot rod Buick”. The car was a great sleeper out on the various cruise locations around the South Bay but, alas, my 19 year old disregard for oil changes in the old Century and an overly aggressive bore job resulted in it’s demise.
