justcharlie: I will have to look that dog breed up. You say it is a heeler or a herd dog breed. It kind of look like a African dog breed. That was a smart dog you had to do all that. Sad that he got clipped by a car, the same happen to my dog and we had to have put to sleep, which I cried too. God’s creation is a blessing.

Check out blue heeler or Australian Cattle Dog, not to be confused with Australian Shepherd.

That clipping did not kill him. He lived to be 12-13 yr old. Once something came by the house while i WAS AT WORK. tHE OTHER DOGS STARTED BARKING RUNNING TO THE DOOR TO GET AT IT WHATEVER/WHOEVER IT WAS. HE ALLOWED MY WIFE TO GO TO THE DOOR, OPEN IT TO LET THE OTHERS OUT THEN STARTED SNAPPING AND SNARLING AT HER LITERALLY HERDING HER BACK ACROSS THE ROOM. HE STOOD BRACED BETWEEN HER AND THE DOOR SNARLING ANY TIME SHE TRIED TO GO TO THE DOOR. HE DID NOT LET HER MOVE UNTIL THE OTHERS CAME BACK WITH AN ALL CLEAR. I LOVED HOW PROTECTIVE HE WAS.

My old eyes see it may be a heeler a type of herd dog bred for their smarts. If you do not ‘work’ them they get restless and get in trouble. We had a mixed Austrailian Shepherd/Border Collie once that when I was working nites he understood he was the guardian of my wife. From the time I left for work till the time she left for work he was her Siamese twin. Problem came when we both went nites. We were in an old mobile home which meant sticky sliding windows 4-5′ off the ground. He would open the living room window to get out running around half the nite, pushing the garbage can under the window to get back in and shut the window back. We would have never known if a neighbor hadn’t shown us pictures. One nite he got clipped by a car breaking his leg and still climbed back in shutting the window as if we wouldn’t know how the leg was broke. When he died I cried. Never had another like him before or since..
