Yep, family Sciuridae, which includes the squirrels and chipmunks, so it’s understandable how people can get confused. Looking at the terrain in the photo also helps identify them as prairie dogs.

More votes for prairie dogs than any other rodent. Prairie dogs come from the genus Cymnomys. Someone from one of these sites was an animal enthusiast.

Prairie dogs they are. Cute little guys. I’ve got woodchucks living in my back yard along with a bunch of gophers/chipmunks.

I’m from The Keystone State and don’t recall seeing a prairie dog.
