Girl Makes First SOLO Flight on 16th Birthday
Natalie makes her first solo flight in an airplane on her 16th birthday at KRNT. This video is the first of 3 laps in the pattern at KRNT. She flies N5213U, a Cessna 162 Skycatcher out of Rainier Flight Services. 16 is the youngest age you can solo an airplane. What did you think? Wonderful to watch. I barely remember my first solo. Noted the technological advances. Dash has changed; digital readouts now apparent. Was surprised that she grabbed full flaps all at once. Was so pleased to see her learning and now using good radio practices. I remember flying out of Pasco WA where farmers had money for hot rod planes, but had no sense of others in the air. One took off directly below me. I always preferred controlled fields for that and other reasons. I believe this young lady has had excellent training and will be a responsible pilot.
