John and his wife, Susan, are winding down for the evening, getting ready for bed…
Susan stands in front of a full-length mirror, scrutinizing her reflection with a critical eye.
She furrows her brow, takes a deep breath, and finally speaks…
“You know, love,” she begins, her voice tinged with melancholy, “I look in this mirror and see an old woman staring back at me… “
“My face is all wrinkled, and my once perky breasts now barely stay above my waist.”
“My bum is hanging out a mile… “
“And just look at my legs, they’re fat, and my arms are so flabby.”
John, already nestled under the covers with a book in his hands, looks up and watches her with a mixture of concern and tenderness.
He sees her turning towards him, her eyes seeking reassurance…
“Tell me something positive to make me feel better about myself,” she pleads, her voice almost breaking.
He sets his book down, his mind racing for the right words to comfort her…
He thinks long and hard, wanting to say something that will truly lift her spirits.
After what feels like an eternity, he speaks up in a soft, gentle voice, “Well,” he finally replies…
“There’s nothing wrong with your eyesight.”
