A farmer stops by the local mechanicās shop to have his old truck fixed…
They suspect it’s a transmission issue, so they tell him itāll take a while and he canāt wait there.
The farmer shrugs and decides to walk home since he doesn’t live far away…
On his way home, he stops at the hardware store and buys a bucket and a gallon of paint.
Then, he heads to the feed store and picks up a couple of chickens and a pig…
Laden with his purchases, he steps outside and realizes he has a problem – how is he going to carry everything home?
As he’s standing there, scratching his head and trying to figure it out, a little old lady approaches him…
She looks a bit lost and asks, “Can you tell me how to get to 1755 Maple Street?”
The farmer brightens up and says, “Well, as a matter of fact, my farm is very close to that house… “
“Iād walk you there, but as you can see, Iām having a bit of a problem trying to carry all this stuff.”
The old lady, quick on her feet, suggests, “Why donāt you put the can of paint in the bucket, carry the bucket in one hand… “
“Put the pig under your arm, and carry the chickens in your hands?”
The farmerās face lights up with appreciation…
“Why, thank you very much! That works perfectly!” he exclaims, and they set off together.
As they walk, the farmer says, “Letās take my usual shortcut through this alley. Weāll be there in no time.”
The little old lady stops and looks at him suspiciously, “I am a lonely widow without a husband to defend me… “
“How do I know that when we get in the alley you wonāt have your way with me?”
The farmer, exasperated, looks at her and says, “Holy smokes, lady!”
“Iām carrying a bucket, a gallon of paint, two chickens, and a pig… “
“How in the world could I do that?”
The old lady points to the items he is carrying and replies…
“Set the pig down, cover him with the bucket, put the paint can on top of the bucket, and Iāll hold the chickens.”
