Two long-time golfing buddies, Jim and Bob, meet at the golf course one day…
Approaching Jim, Bob says, “Hey, let’s try something different today. Let’s play the ball where it lands, no matter what!”
They shake hands on it, grinning, both eager for a challenging and honest game.
On the 14th hole, Jim steps up to the tee and takes a mighty swing…
Unfortunately, he slices his drive, and the ball veers off wildly, eventually coming to rest on the cart path.
Jim walks over to his ball, surveying the difficult lie with a frown…
As he reaches down to pick up his ball to get relief, Bob calls out, “Wait a minute! We agreed we wouldn’t move the ball !… “
“Remember? No matter what!”
Jim sighs and tries to explain, “But Bob, Iβm entitled to this relief. Itβs in the rules of golf… “
“I can’t hit the ball off the cart path. It could damage my club.”
Bob crosses his arms and shakes his head, “Rules or not, Jim, we agreed. No moving the ball, no matter what!”
Jim throws up his hands in disgust, but a deal is a deal…
He trudges back to the cart, grumbling under his breath, and grabs a club.
Bob watches him, amused and curious about how Jim will handle this situation…
As Jim stands near his ball, he takes a few practice swings.
Each time, his club scrapes the pavement, sending out showers of sparks…
Bob winces at the sound, imagining the damage to the club, but Jim is determined to play it as it lies.
Finally, Jim takes his shot.
The club hits the path again with a loud crack and sparks fly everywhere, but miraculously, the ball shoots straight towards the green…
Both men watch in awe as the ball lands softly and rolls to a stop just two inches from the cup.
Bob breaks into applause, “Great shot!” he exclaims, still amazed, “What club did you use?”
Jim looks back at Bob and replies…
“Your 7 iron!”
