To this day I cherish the 50’s. I now drive around in my Caddy with the sun roof open and the radio tuned to Sirius – the 50’s music. I know the words to every song and sing it as loud as I can. Sometimes I even roll the widows down so everyone can hear what they missed. Those were the best days of my life!!!

My younger brother was stationed with Elvis in the Army, in Germany in 1962. I had a rod/custom shop in the fifties, in southern tier, New York, before I went into the Air Force to fly Air Force planes for twenty years.

Thank you for the wonderful memories!! I was born in 1949 so the 50’s brought back memories of playing outside until the street lights came on, playing Jack’s & hop scotch, & riding our bikes all the time!!! Never remember being “bored”!! But the 60’s were so great! As everyone has said it was a gentler time in small town America. Thank you for all the memories of both films!! Loved them!!

I remember them all. Fun times, life was good and we didn’t realize how good.

They were the best of times, unfortunately there will probably never be another period like the 40s-50s and 60s. People enjoyed life, getting out and getting together. You never went to your parents saying that you had nothing to do, because, sure as hell there would be some chores. Play grounds and ball diamonds were never standing empty and unused. Sports and general activities didn’t need a lot of organizing, we didn’t want the adults messing with our time. Respect, discipline and just plain old common sense were common then, and looking back, problems were small and easily solved, generally face to face, and then you shook hands and life went on. I was born in ’39 in Grande Prairie up in northern Alberta and it took a lot of growing up before I realized just how good life was back then !!

I remember and agree with all you’ve posted. Good old handshake meant a lot back then, solid, firm, looking each other in the eye, honest and truthful. Thank you sir. 1947, Youngstown, Ohio.
