In contrast, the period brought about important advances in industry, communications and agriculture, at the cost in many cases of an intense exploitation of human and natural resources. When you look at the tattoos on so many bodies, the piercings, hair colored like a rainbow, drag queens, etc., etc. – they look mighty tame. Just go shopping at Walmart. That sometimes takes my breath away.
