Dawn Wells – “Sugar Sugar”

Dawn Wells played Mary Ann Summers on Gilligan’s Island (1964–1967). She was the wholesome, sweet, and down-to-earth farm girl from Kansas, often seen as the “girl next door” compared to the glamorous Ginger Grant (played by Tina Louise). Mary Ann was known for her kindness, optimism, and practicality—often cooking meals, helping with island chores, and showing genuine care for the castaways.

She usually wore short shorts with a tied-up blouse or a gingham dress, and her pigtails became an iconic look. Many fans debated over the years whether they preferred “Ginger or Mary Ann?”, with Mary Ann often winning for her relatability and charm.

Even after the show ended, Dawn Wells remained closely associated with the character, appearing in reunions and staying engaged with fans until her passing in 2020.
