Joanne, I totally agree with you. I am a cat lover and if this happened to one of my cats, I would immediately take her to my vet to get checked out.

As Joanne mentioned in an earlier post, just the fact that the cat remained motionless when it’s owner touched him would set off an alarm for me.

Also, I disagree with Margaret. If the owner cared so much about this kitty, I reiterate why didn’t he keep running the video so that the viewers would see the kitty was alright.

In addition Margaret, you stated we just have to trust the owner’s caring heart and wisdom. After watching the video again, the owner touched the kitten several times and the kitten did not respond. At that point, I would have immediately put the camera down and picked the kitten up to ensure it is alright, not continue filming and state “she’s dead.” That does not say too much for the owner’s “caring heart and wisdom.”

I disagree Margaret … considering the owner thinks the kitten is being cute which is a common mistake many owners make, which is why the video was made. Like everyone else – you are making an assumption. The kitten should be checked by a vet to ensure it doesn’t have a health issue. It is always better to be safe than sorry!

People!!! Let it go!!! The owner cares about the kittens. He cared about his kittens enough to include them in his videos, so probably
he cares enough to watch them for illnesses.
HOWEVER: I actually took TWO YEARS VETERINARY SCHOOL BEFORE I SWITCHED
and got my medical degree towards helping people. The kitten
was quite normal in his position for sleeping. However, as
Joanne said: Individual Care Plan is Medical 101. Therefore, just because this action fell into a generalized Norm, it does not been that it is normal for that kitten. We’ll just have to
trust the owner’s caring heart and wisdom.

I agree Mare … the video ended with the kitten being motionless. I’m just not comfortable with that!

i wondered about that too, mare…especially after it didn’t respond after he touched it…and when i went back and looked at it, i don’t think i ever saw a kitten ‘sleep’ like that…usually the paws are relaxed…hmmmm

Why did the owner stop the video? Didn’t he think viewers would want to see that the kitty was alright.

That is not a “silly” decision, but a wise one.

What is interesting here is that everyone is making an assumption. No one who has posted so far can say there is nothing wrong with this kitten, and unless you are a vet you really aren’t qualified to make that call. For the safety of the kitten, it’s always best to have him/her checked. Again … it’s called an ounce of prevention. In addition, many owners have pets with conditions that go untreated because they are clueless. They laugh and say “isn’t that cute, the kitten is playing dead.” No one here has offered any concrete information, other than what they think and that just isn’t safe for the kitten. Basing a decision on “I’ve raised many kittens” is ridiculous because it doesn’t mean anything. They are all different. You can have 100 kittens all doing the same thing and maybe they are all all right, but there is always the chance that one may not be. I would not take chances by assuming which isn’t very smart. I would choose to be sure and the only way of doing that would be to go to a vet for the sake of the kitten. Better safe than sorry!
