A Christmas Memory from 1942
This video features the original 1942 version of Bing Crosby’s “White Christmas.” It was re-recorded in 1947 which is the version most people are familiar with. This is the version that was loved by our troops overseas during World War 2. What did you think? Certainly so much nicer than what we are hearing now. The singers like Crosby seem to be a thing of our past.

As our American heroes were celebrating Christmas in Europe and the Pacific, the “enemy” was doing the same to the song of “O Tannenbaum” throughout Europe. Makes you think!

I was born that year, so I don’t remember much of the song, BUT I did grow up every year with “White Christmas”, “The First Noel”, etc. To me, that WAS Christmas. Then tapes came in and then CD’s or your IPhones!! Then I got an idea! It took days for me to gather the “old songs”, “Polish Christmas” songs that my husband loved and they got on my tapes!! I thought I ‘had it made’, but then “CD’s” came out and are still there….so far!! My hubby then made all the tapes onto CD’s and we still play them…..with all of the OLD Christmas songs on it. My daughters, Judy & Karen both got their very own Christmas CD’s and, still to this day, they play all my good old Christmas songs, with Bing, Frank, and all the old “good old boyz” (and gals) singing away. Most of the songs were performed by people my daughters never heard of or knew….and some they recognized. They are both in their 50’s and LOVE Mom’s music. When the tree is being decorated, inside & outside decorations were being put up, the CD’s were put on…..and what memories were made!!
This year has been trying with Covidi-19, but Christmas Eve and Day will still be celebrated!! Unfortunately my daughters and grandchildren, and my sons in law will not be coming for the Vigil night dinner. It will be different because it’s an “enemy that we cannot see”, BUT Christmas is still coming. Celebrations may be smaller, but we will still celebrate…..just in a different way. And, I’m sure we will hear “White Christmas”, “The First Noel”, and “Silent Night”…and then WE all join in together! Make memories for you and for your children, grandchildren! These songs will be forever a part of my past and my entire families past, and futures to come! Love to one and all!! MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!!
